Editorial policy
Last updated: 1 Nov 2026
This policy sets out the standards every story on Bharatverseh must meet.
Accuracy
We report facts we can verify. We rely first on primary sources: laws, court orders, official data, regulatory filings, on-record statements and documents. Where we use secondary sources, we name them. Every story ends with a "Read the documents yourself" list of its sources.
Labelling
- News: reports what has happened, based on verified facts.
- Explainer: sets out background and context to help readers understand an issue.
- Analysis: interprets events, drawing on evidence, and is clearly marked.
- Opinion: carries the views of the named writer, not of Bharatverseh, and is clearly labelled.
Political independence
Bharatverseh has no affiliation with any political party, government or candidate. We scrutinise those in power at the Union and in the states, and those seeking power, by the same standards. Our staff do not hold office in political parties.
Fairness
When a story makes a serious allegation against a person or organisation, we seek their response before publishing and include it. We do not publish rumours or unverified claims from social media as fact.
Independence
Editorial decisions are made by our editors alone. Advertisers, sponsors and owners have no say in what we cover or how. Advertising on this site is served by third parties such as Google and is clearly marked as "Advertisement". We do not publish paid content disguised as news. If we ever publish sponsored content, it will be labelled "Sponsored" at the top.
Sensitive content
We do not publish graphic images of violence, content that promotes hatred against any group, sexually explicit material, or content that identifies survivors of sexual offences or juveniles in conflict with the law, in line with Indian law. We take care when reporting on suicide and include helpline information.
Original work
Everything we publish is written by our team. We do not copy or rewrite other publications' articles. When we follow up on a story first reported elsewhere, we credit and link to the original.
Use of AI tools
Our editors may use software tools, including AI tools, to assist with research, transcription or proofreading. Every story is checked, edited and approved by a human editor, who is responsible for its accuracy.
Images
We use images we create, images we have a licence to use, or official handout images that are credited. Illustrations are labelled as such.
