Nitin Nabin is the son of Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, a BJP MLA from Patna. After his father's death in 2006 he won the by-election for Patna West, the start of an unbroken run of five Assembly wins. From 2010 he contested Bankipur, winning it in 2010, 2015, 2020 and 2025. In the 2025 election he beat the RJD's Rekha Kumari by 51,936 votes.

Minister in Bihar

He first joined the Bihar government in February 2021 as Road Construction Minister and held the post until August 2022. He returned to the government in March 2024 with the Law and Urban Development portfolios. He went back to Road Construction in February 2025 and was again Urban Development Minister after the November 2025 election.

Party president

In December 2025 the BJP parliamentary board named him national working president, and he resigned from the Bihar cabinet. He was the only candidate when nominations for the president's post closed, and the party's central election authority declared him elected on 19 January 2026. He took charge the next day from J. P. Nadda, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi present. Business Today reported that his proposers included Modi, Nadda, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari, and that at 45 he is the youngest person to lead the party.

In April 2026 he entered the Rajya Sabha from Bihar for a term ending in 2032, giving up his Assembly seat.

Record

His affidavits show five pending criminal cases, all registered in Patna between 2013 and 2023 under sections commonly used against protesters, such as unlawful assembly, obstructing public servants and disobeying prohibitory orders. He had declared no cases in 2010 and 2015. None has led to a conviction. His declared assets rose from Rs 6.12 lakh in 2010 to Rs 3.07 crore in 2025.

As party president he leads the BJP's organisation rather than holding a government post, so there is no ministerial record yet to assess at the national level.
